home about food style contact me follow: style / july 22, 2017 3 tips to smoothly transition your outfits from work to weekend style like many, my style has evolved throughout the years. each fashion phase i have gone through has reflected a different chapter in my life. i started a full time job right out of college and my wardrobe consisted mostly of business casual clothes. this made me feel proud. i felt like i was hashtag adulting pretty well. however, my style sense had lost a certain charisma it once had back in my college days. so, when i went back to grad school and was no longer confined to an office dress code, i went a little quirky crazy. i had gone from one end of the spectrum to the other: monotonous to cute-weird, and my unrelenting (aka savage) friends took notice. although it took a while, i have finally found that fulcrum point in my wardrobe that balances day job work attire with weekend, night out style. here are 3 guidelines i like to follow to help me maintain the balance between work and casual wear. 1. be basic (in a good way!) basic pieces, like these madewell black pants (yes, they’re actual pants & no, they aren’t yoga pants) and a plain white t-shirt from h&m, might seem mundane, but you will be able to wear these pieces interchangeably for work or the weekend. these act as good building blocks for any look, since they can be dressed up or down. 2. layer, layer, layer! by layer, i don’t mean bundle up. layer your basic tee with either a leather or bomber jacket, like this embroidered one from urban outfitters, or with a longer blazer for something more work appropriate. layering with a blazer, jacket, or even cardigan not only helps to define your outfit as business or casual, but it also helps to reduce the basic-ness (is that even a word?) and simplicity of the plain t-shirt and pants. 3. change up your accessories if a jacket or blazer can help define your outfit, then accessories can elevate your look even further. i went for these black mules from target to achieve a more casual look. if going for a work theme, pointy toed pumps complement blazers very well. accessories appropriate for work can also include: a leather tote purse with clean, sharp lines, small & classy stud earrings, and a minimalistic watch ( daniel wellington , anyone?) also! i have almost perfected the style blogger walk. almost. find similar outfit items here: mules pants leather jacket white tee sunglasses 1,153 comments share style / june 8, 2017 graphic tees + flowy skirts in san francisco the story a little while ago, i was shopping with my (not so) baby cousin, who is 16 years old. we were in forever 21, and they had a bunch of band t-shirts on display. i wondered if any of the youngsters that shop there knew who these bands were, so i decided to test out my question. pointing to one of the shirts that said, “metallica” on it, i asked my cousin if she knew who that is. her response was hilarious. she thought it was a place, not a band. le sigh. the outfit the led zeppelin shirt is from amazon (thank goodness for prime), and i am proud to say that i actually listen to led zeppelin’s music. they are the greatest band of all time, after all. this jean jacket from h&m is becoming a staple piece in my wardrobe. it is slightly cropped and distressed. the denim jacket adds an ever-so-slight edge to every outfit it’s worn with. i paired the band tee with classic vans old skool shoes . i am a sucker for white sneakers, and these are my current favorites at the moment. the confession the very flowy, pleated maxi skirt from white house black market has been sitting in my closet for years. i have other pieces of clothing in my closet waiting to be worn for the first time, yet i can’t stop shopping for new clothes. does anyone else have this problem?? the photographer i had so much fun shooting this look with bay area photographer , keith bodziak . if you are looking for a photographer in the san francisco area, i highly recommend him! 2,125 comments share food / may 25, 2017 5 delicious foods to eat in southern california los angeles is no stranger to the food scene. you can find a ton of unique eats there, but la isn’t the only place in southern california to eat delicious food. below are some of the best things i ate during a recent socal trip (ventura, anaheim, irvine, & orange). enjoy! 1. golden latte + green dream smoothie bowl harvest cafe i had just finished a run on ventura beach and was super hungry, but i didn’t want to eat something that would undo my workout. it was also kind of early so i had to find a place that was open. harvest cafe in downtown ventura checked all of those boxes. their golden latte is made with homemade cashew milk and turmeric. no coffee! turmeric can have a strong flavor, but this tasted creamy and slightly sweet. the green dream smoothie bowl was a nice addition to the latte. it was light yet hearty. i felt satisfied and healthy after i finished eating here. 2. goat cheese naan adya adya can be found in the anaheim packing house. if you are looking for something non-disney related to do around disneyland, definitely check this food hall out. adya has a traditional oven to make naan in, and i saw this naan made right in front of me. it was the perfect size as well, probably as big as my hand. the naan part was fluffy and warm and was stuffed with the perfect amount of goat cheese- not too much or too little. this was one of my favorite eats at the anaheim packing house. 3. sweet potato + cheese pretzel coffee tomo if i told you this was a pretzel, would you believe me? it is stuffed with sweet potato and cheese, which seems like an interesting combination but it was really yummy! the pretzel was freshly baked and the bread part was still warm from being in the oven when i got it. it wasn’t too sweet or too savory. if sweet potato and cheese isn’t your thing, coffee tomo has other kinds of pretzels on their menu that i’m sure you’ll enjoy. 4. green chilaquiles anepalco the first time i had chilaquiles was at my friend’s house. his grandmother is mexican, and she would make this dish for parties. years later, i have not been able to find chilaquiles that taste as good as hers, until i went to anepalco. located in orange, ca, anepalco is known for their chilaquiles. they have a red and green version. both are amazing, but the green one was my favorite. the tortilla had absorbed the flavors in the green sauce and the pumpkin seeds added a nice crunchy texture that complimented the rest of the dish. also, my mouth is watering right now. 5. grilled cheese animal style in-n-out burger believe it or not, this was my first time having in-n-out. my friend knew that i was an in-n-out virgin and said that she would order for me. she literally told me not to say anything at the register. she ordered an off the menu item for me: a grilled cheese, animal style. a grilled cheese here is just like a regular burger minus the bun. i don’t think i have had anything that tastes so good. it’s probably a good thing we don’t have any of these here, or else i would be 20 pounds heavier. 1,847 comments share food / may 9, 2017 6 of the most delicious foods i ate in manhattan, new york the food scene in new york rivals that of other big cities. almost every major and micro cuisine is represented in the big apple. here are some of the best things i ate during my trip to new york. this list is based on no particular criteria whatsoever, and the list goes in no particular order. and, seriously, you have to try the cronut when you’re there. you just gotta. you can thank me later. 1. blood orange almond cronut dominique ansel bakery dominique ansel bakery, in soho, is the original nyc spot where the cronut was invented. yes, there was a line out the door. yes, i woke up early on a saturday morning in new york to stand in line (alone) so i could get my friends and i some cronuts. yes, it was totally worth it, and, yes, i would def
